Modern living can take a toll on our wellbeing as women. We go, go, go for so many years, and then as I so often hear, comes a crash. For many women, including me, mid-life brought new health challenges that came on subtly at first and then quickly piled up. From fatigue to brain fog to sleep issues – and eventually an unfortunate thyroid diagnosis.
It was a wake-up call for me to step back and examine my life. My own healing journey ignited a passion to help others rediscover their healthy essence®, leading me to pursue a double Master of Science in clinical nutrition and herbal medicine at the Maryland University of Integrative Health.
Throughout my studies and I as I began to work with clients individually, I’ve realized the critical need for nutritional support and information for women in the perimenopause and menopause stages of life. I know from my own journey how powerful diet, lifestyle and herbal medicine can be in supporting a more gentle and less erratic and uncomfortable transition.
While many women experience similar health challenges during mid-life, the root causes are not always the same. This is why my approach to wellness and nutrition is client-centered, where each woman’s program is tailored to her specific needs and goals for reclaiming her most vibrant self in mid-life and beyond.
Mid-life can be an exciting time of renewal and awakening for many women. I challenge the myth that women can’t feel fabulous in mid-life. I know firsthand from my own experience and in helping other women like me that they indeed can!

How Herbal Medicine Supports Women in Mid-Life
While the years leading up to menopause and beyond are a time of transition, it shouldn’t feel like a never-ending rollercoaster of ups and downs that we need to “grin and bear.” Yet, for many women it unfortunately does. Diet, lifestyle, and herbal medicine can have a positive impact in going through this change as gracefully as possible. Herbs can help with challenges such as hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances and menstrual cycle irregularity. Supportive herbs are wonderful to help manage stress, mood, mental clarity, libido, vaginal health and more. Combined with diet and lifestyle, they can help protect against common post-menopausal conditions like osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.
Because herbs provide so many gentle, nourishing, and nutritional benefits, they are almost always an important part of the nutrition protocols I create for women in my practice. Because each woman is unique in her journey, herbal protocols are customized to support and honor the unique needs of each client.
